My Husband Encouraged Me to Lean In How My Husband's Love and Encouragement Pushed Me to Take a Stand on Women's Self-Leadership and Empowerment Issues...

This special post is dedicated to my husband David, because thanks to him, I found my passion to help women find their voice, become empowered and help them develop their personal self-leadership.

The Beginning…

I still remember seeing him come home one day from his usual weekend errands. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon in October. He walked in and told me that he had just heard this great guest host on Sirius XM’s Springsteen channel (David is a HUGE Springsteen fan)! In any event, the guest host was Stewart Friedman, professor at the Wharton School of Business. During his segment, Friedman talked about his newly published book – Leading the Life You Want. In his book, Friedman identified six diverse and highly interesting leadership personalities, two of which caught David’s attention. One was Bruce Springsteen (no surprise there) and the other was Sheryl Sandberg.

Being the curious culture vulture that he is, David meticulously researched the different personalities. When he stumbled upon Sheryl Sandberg’s famous TED talk, he called me over to have a look. Well, as you can imagine, I was captivated and enthralled! Everything Sandberg was pointing out resonated with me! At that very moment, I knew that I had found my true passion –I was going to immerse myself in topics of women’s self-leadership and empowerment. I was going to – in one way or another – find a way to help, inspire, empower, and uplift other women to live their best life! And while I was at it, I was also going to find tools and strategies to empower myself as well as to empower our beautiful daughter, Phoebe! I was officially on a mission!

I tell this story quite often and I love reminiscing about it!  If it weren’t for my husband, I may not have discovered my passion for women’s self-leadership. It has been four years since David encouraged me to pursue my interest in helping other women. At that moment, he Leaned In and, for that, I will always be grateful.
